Capacity. Conventionally the Fire Extinguishers are Cartridge Type Puncturing Design with the risk of the Cap Assembly blowing out in the event of improper maintenance and wrong design. The Portable Units of 10Kg. Capacity weighs on an average about 20 Kg. which is a substantially higher weight for the average individual to carry in Hand quickly and to run to the spot of Fire. The 50Kg. Extinguishers are supplied with 2 Wheels, necessitating the Operator to push the Cylinder towards him while towing, with consequent risk of possible slip up and Hazard in the Tension due to Fire, even before reaching the Fire Spot. The Extinguishers supplied with Ordinary Dry Powder are suitable for B & C Class Fires. Where as for reactive metals, you have to have a Special Dry Powder for Metal Fires with Applicator. In normal Plant there are always B & C Risks. In highly Hazardous Industries processing reactive metals, there will always be B & C Class Fire risk in addition to the reactive metal Fire Risks of Class D Nature. Needless to say there is A Class Fire Risk in every occupancy. To effectively Extinguish B & C Fires one has to apply High Pressure Jet and Powder to quickly sweep through the flame to cut out OXYGEN and to cut the flame instantaneously. While fighting the A Class Fire it is necessary that the Extinguishing Medium be directed to the seat of Fire so that the Fire is extinguished at its root. This calls for Gentle Discharge of Powder for effective blanketing. We are of firm opinion that the so-called ABC Powders can not effectively Extinguish deep seated A Class Fires with a pressure jet of Powder. Again for Extinguishing burning reactive metals involving very high surface temperatures, it is necessary that the Powder be sprayed very gently on the burning reactive metals to avoid splash over and creating Secondary Fires. Therefore, for Extinguishers to be effective on all types of Fire Risks it should have built in Mechanism for high-pressure jet as well as for low pressure Application. To be useful in an Emergency the Extinguisher should also be of a Design, which could be effortlessly and without difficulty carried to the scene of Fire Quickly and operated upon. 10 Kg. Extinguisher is supplied with a single Handle tow carriage with a single Handle and mounted on Wheels for easy towing. Similarly the 50 Kg. Extinguisher is supplied with 2 Rubber Tyred Wheels of large size and a Swiveling Wheel, with a holding handle and the Extinguishers inclination so designed for effortless towing. The Operator need not have to exert unnecessary pressure and carry heavy load on his body. The Extinguishers are filled with KV-LITE TEC Dry Powder, manufactured under licence from Department of Space, Government of India, based on their Technology, a proprietary patented product covered under Indian Patent No. 147483. This Dry Powder is suitable for all type of reactive metal fires. Both 10 Kg. As well as 50 KG. Extinguishers are supplied with Externally mounted CO2 Expellent Cylinders with regulating valve, the Cylinders of adequate capacity. The Expellent Cylinder being connected to the Powder Container through the flexible nut / heavy duty piping for easy assembly / connection. 1. Externally mounted CO2 Expellent Cylinder with regulating Valve helps to control the discharge to the desired degree base on the nature of risk. 2. The Extinguisher is supplied with low-pressure applicator connected to the discharge hose through the Quick connecting Camlock type Coupling. The Discharge Hose is having a Coupler at the discharge end and a suitable adapter is fitted at the Nozzle end. For use with Class A & D Fires, the low pressure applicator consisting of 1m long Aluminium Pipe with dumbbell shaped Aluminum Dome with Brass spray head at the Discharge end and a camlock type Quick connecting Adapter can be quickly connected to the Discharge Hose and the Powder can be gently discharged on the burning reactive metals or A class Solid fuels for Quick blanketing. Applicator is fixed to the tow carriage and operator needs to take it out only at the time of operation at the scene of Fire. 3. The camlock type of coupling are of S.S 304 with smooth surfaces for contact parts with the result there is no possibility of any corrosion due to Plant Environment. 4. Apart from Anti Corrosion treatment the Cylinder surfaces both inside and outside are powder coated for better and long life. 5. The Extinguishers are designed for conformity to IS: 11833:86 Reaffirmed 1996. The Dry Powder is proprietary patented composition based on TEC as per ISRO Technology and covered under Indian patent No. 147483.
